2 THERE ARE 2 TYPES OF COMPARISONS: Comparisons of inequality (more than/less than) Examples: There are more boys than girls in the class. We have less homework than yesterday. Esteban is taller than Mario. Comparisons of equality (as/as much) Examples: The movie is as good as the book. I study as much as Marta.
3 COMPARISONS OF INEQUALITY The following construction is used with adjectives, adverbs, and nouns: más/menos + adjective + que adverb noun Examples: Sandra es más alta que Isabel. Raúl corre más rápido que Enrique. Tengo menos tiempo que tú.
4 IF YOU ARE MAKING COMPARISONS USING ADJECTIVES Remember to make the adjective agree in number and gender with the subject. Examples: Carolina es más artística que Amanda. Nosotros somos menos tímidos que ellos. verde. La camisa azul es más bonita que el suéter
5 MAKE COMPARISONS OF INEQUALITY BETWEEN FÉLIX AND PÉPE los adjetivos: rápido perezoso activo gordo delgado feliz Félix Pépe Félix es más gordo que Pépe. Félix es menos activo que Pépe. Pépe es más feliz que Félix. Pépe es más rápido que Félix.
6 FILL IN THE BLANKS TO COMPLETE EACH COMPARISON. 1. Los gatos son más que los perros. 2. Los perros son más que los gatos. 3. Los gatos son menos que los perros. 4. Los perros son menos que los gatos. 5. Los gatos tienen personalidad que los perros.
7 THE FOLLOWING ARE IRREGULAR COMPARATIVES: Adjective bueno/a (good) malo/a (bad) viejo (old) joven (young) Comparative Form mejor (better) peor (worse) mayor (older) menor (younger) Examples: El helado de chocolate es mejor que el helado de fresa. La comida aquí es peor que la comida en mi restaurante favorito. Mi hermano es mayor que yo. Yo soy menor que mi hermano.
8 MAKE COMPARISONS USING THE FOLLOWING IRREGULAR ADJECTIVES. 1. Francisco tiene 15 años y su hermano, Héctor tiene 13. Francisco es que Héctor. 2. Paula toca el piano bien pero su hermana, Inés, no toca bien. Paula toca que Inés. 3. Alejandro nació en 1980 y Juan Luis nació en Juan Luis es que Alejandro. 4. Ignacio practica el tenis mucho. Su hermano, Benjamín nunca practica. Benjamín juega que Ignacio.
9 COMPARISONS OF EQUALITY The following constructions are used with comparisons of equality. tan + adjective + como adverb as as Examples: Roberto es tan atlético como Martín. Roberto is as athletic as Martín. Elena corre tan rápido como Mónica. Elena runs as fast as Mónica.
10 COMPARISONS OF EQUALITY tanto/a/os/as + noun(s) + como as much/many as Examples: Tengo tantos libros como tú. I have as many books as you. Hay tantos chicos como chicas. There are as many guys as girls.
11 COMPARISONS OF EQUALITY verb + tanto como as much as Examples: Estudio tanto como ella. I study as much as her. Me gusta escribir tanto como leer. I like to write as much as read.
12 MAKE A COMPARISON OF EQUALITY. 1. Tengo 10 manzanas y 10 naranjas. 2. Corro muy rápido. Mi amigo, José, es rápido también. 3. Generalmente, estudio español por una hora cada noche. Estudias por una hora también. 4. Hay 15 sillas y 15 mesas en la clase. 5. Normalmente, duermo por 8 horas cada noche. Isabel duerme por 8 horas también.
13 LOS GEMELOS (TWINS) Pedro y Paco son gemelos. Son iguales en su apariencia pero tienen personalidades diferentes. Lee la descripción de ellos y haz 5 comparaciones: 2 de igualdad y 3 de desigualdad. Pedro Paco Pedro y Paco son altos, guapos y delgados. Pedro es muy atlético y tiene muchos amigos. Le gusta ir al cine y hablar con los amigos. Él es muy extrovertido. Paco también tiene muchos amigos pero es un poco tímido. Le gusta leer y tiene muchos libros. Es activo pero no le gustan mucho los deportes.
