= Leche = OD (objeto directo). En inglés es igual. Example: I drink coffee twice a week = what do I drink twice a week? = a mi madre = OI (objeto indirecto). In english: I gave a present to my brother = who did I give a present? = to my brother = OI En estos ejemplos ves que sólo aparece un objeto, o directo o indirecto. Pasamos a otro punto relacionado con este tema, cuando aparecen los dos objetos juntos. verbs with two objects. I (S) am writing (V) a letter (OBJECT) = here write has only one object (a letter) I (S) am writing (V) a letter (OBJECT: the thing) to him (OBJECT: the person) For those who both like and understand grammar: a letter = direct object (objeto directo) to him = indirect obect (objeto indirecto) I (S) am writing (V) him (OBJECT: the person) a letter (OBJECT: the thing) As you can see, when we have 2 objects, we have two different rules: 1. V + the thing (direct object) + TO the person (indirect object) 2. V + the person (indirect object) + the thing When we have a pronoun, this is the rule: S + V + PRONOUN + TO + PERSON I lent it to my brother = it has to be put before the person!!
EX: 1. The teacher showed her/his students the exams OR the teacher showed the exams to her/his students. 2. Te estoy enseñando inglés: I m teaching you English OR I m teaching English to you. 3. Préstame dinero, por favor: Lend me some money OR lend some money to me. 4. vle di a mi hermana unos zapatos: I gave my sister a pair of shoes OR I gave a pair of shoes to my sister. 5. María le trajo a los niños caramelos: Mary brought the children some sweets OR Mary brought some sweets to the chidren. EX: 1. El profesor se los mostró = The teacher showed them to her/his students. 2. Te lo estoy enseñando = I m teaching it to you. 3. Préstamelo, por favor = Lend it to me, please. 4. Se los di a mi hermana = I gave it to my sister (it refers to a pair). 5. María se los trajo a los niños = Mary brought them to the children.
"He broke the window." ("Rompió la ventana.") Qué fue afectado por la acción? La ventana. Entonces "the window" es el objeto directo. "The ball hit her." I hated that movie so much. (Odié tanto esa película.) 7 You bought the same hat last week. (Compraste el mismo sombrero la semana pasada.) Joan is doing her homework right now. (Joan está haciendo su tarea ahora.) I've made a promise. (He hecho una promesa.)
"He gave his mother flowers." ("Dio a su madre unas flores.") A quién le dio las flores? A su madre. Entonces "his mother" es el objeto indirecto. "He baked his family some cookies." ("Hizo unas galletas para su familia.") Para quién hizo unas galletas? Para su familia. Entonces "his family" es el objeto indirecto.
"Jack is telling them the news." ("Jack les está contando la noticia.") A quiénes está contando la noticia? A ellos. Entonces "them" es el objeto indirecto. "Barney is writing Fred a letter." I told you what to do. (Te dije qué hacer.)
We built him a castle on the beach. (Le construimos un castillo en la playa.) You bought her the same hat last week. Joan is writing me a letter right now. (Joan me está escribiendo una carta ahora.) I've made Shannon a promise. (He hecho una promesa a Shannon.)
"He baked his family some cookies."
("Hizo unas galletas para su familia.") El verbo es "baked." Qué es directamente afectado por esta acción? Las galletas. Fueron hechas! Entonces "some cookies" es el objeto directo. Quién va a recibir las galletas? Su familia. Entonces "his family" es el objeto indirecto. Puedes ver que el objeto indirecto ("his family") está ubicado justo antes del objeto directo ("some cookies"). "Jack is telling them the news." ("Jack les está contando la noticia.") El verbo es "is telling." Qué es directamente afectado por esta acción? La noticia. Está siendo contada!
Entonces "the news" es el objeto directo. Quiénes están recibiendo la noticia? Ellos. Entonces "them" es el objeto indirecto. Puedes ver que el objeto indirecto ("them") está ubicado justo antes del objeto directo ("the news"). "Barney is writing Fred a letter." ("Barney está escribiendo una carta a Fred.") El verbo es "is writing." Qué es directamente afectado por esta acción? La carta. Está siendo escrita! Entonces "the letter" es el objeto directo. Quién está recibiendo la carta? Fred. "She wrote me a message." ("Me escribió un mensaje.")
El verbo es "wrote." Qué es directamente afectado por esta acción? El mensaje. Fue escrito! Entonces "a message" es el objeto directo. Quién recibe el mensaje? Yo. "I made you this kit." ("Te hice este kit.") El verbo es "made." Qué es directamente afectado por esta acción? El kit. Fue hecho!
Entonces "this kit" es el objeto directo. Quién recibe el kit? Tú. Entonces "you" es el objeto indirecto. Puedeses ver que el objeto indirecto ("you") está ubicado justo antes del objeto directo ("this kit"). "Susan is writing herself a note." ("Susan se está escribiendo una nota.") El verbo es "is writing." Qué es directamente afectado por esta acción? La nota. Está siendo escrita! Entonces "a note" es el objeto directo. Quién recibe la nota? Ella. "He bought his friend a present."
"The cat is looking at the fish." ("El gato está mirando el pez.") Ejemplo 1: She is thinking about. (Está pensando en.) La oración es incompleta. No sabemos en qué está pensando. Aquí está la versión completa: She is thinking about your idea. Ejemplo 2: Be careful with. (Ten cuidado con.) La oración es incompleta. No sabemos con qué deberíamos tener cuidado.
Aquí está la versión completa: Be careful with the hot water. Ejemplo 3: Emma gave the book to. (Emma dio el libro a.) La oración es incompleta. No sabemos a quién dio el libro. Aquí está la versión completa: Emma gave the book to Ronnie. Ejemplo 4: Ronnie is doing it for. Aquí está la versión completa: Ronnie is doing it for Emma.
Emma gave Ronnie the book. (Emma dio a Ronnie el libro.) 2. Emma gave the book to Ronnie.
